Nemoc (Sickness)

NemocI'm not a book, so stop trying to read me like one. Nemoc, which means "sickness" or "disease" in Czech, is a highly disturbing look into the mind of a schizophrenic child, experiencing his wild, jumbled thoughts just before he kills himself. To change the way people see him, the young boy beats himself up and tears his clothes to shreds, then takes a stroll through Prague's tourist mecca of Old Town Square. This chaotic sequence of self abuse inter-cuts with the quiet hilltop of Radlicka and the cemetery below it, as the troubled boy argues with his guilt-stricken half, manifesting itself in the form of his dead best friend. An intensely dark but visually stunning film, Sickness is not for those who are easily unsettled. |
